iPhone 15 Rumors: All the Information We Have on Apple's Upcoming Phone

Our unofficial preview of Apple’s iPhone 15 series is based on the most reliable rumors.

Even though the iPhone 15 series won’t likely be available until the fall of 2023, many unanswered concerns remain regarding Apple’s upcoming smartphone. A USB-C port will the iPhone 15 have? Will Apple raise the price of the iPhone in 2023? Any mention of what the “iPhone 15” will it receive? Nobody outside of Apple is certain, but until Apple holds its next iPhone event, the rumor mill will undoubtedly pique our interest. Here are some of the largest and most reliable rumors we have heard so far to give you an idea of what the iPhone 15 might look like.

Design of the iPhone 15: Supporting USB-C charging

Given that iPhones sold in the European Union must migrate to a USB-C connector by 2024, the charging port of the iPhone is the design speculation that has generated the most interest so far. Whether Apple would upgrade all iPhone models to USB-C or only those offered in the EU is the subject of debate. Apple already makes regional modifications to its iPhone models, as seen with the iPhone 14: While other variations still have a SIM slot, the US version has an electronic SIM.

However, Avi Greengart, a Techsponential analyst, thinks Apple has excellent reasons to switch all future iPhones to USB-C. To comply with European rules, Greengart believes it is more likely that Apple will switch all iPhones [globally] to USB-C in the period of the iPhone 16 due to the wider ecosystem, security, and accessory concerns with the power/data port.

Design of the iPhone 15: Dynamic Island now includes all models

Apple is presumably likely to continue offering four different iPhone models with the iPhone 15 lineup. Even though all variations are likely to look relatively similar, the Dynamic Island cutout from the iPhone 14 Pro is said to be on every model.

This speculation originates from display analyst Ross Young, who also stated in a September tweet that the supply chain prevents base iPhone 15 models from having a greater refresh rate than Apple’s Pro iPhones.

The most eye-catching feature on the iPhone 14 Pro feels like it’s winking at something else.

Solid-state buttons are now available on professional iPhone 15 versions.

In the upcoming years, noted Apple watcher Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at TF International Securities, anticipates that Apple will further differentiate between its base and Pro models. He stated in a tweet from October that one way he anticipates it to happen is by replacing the normal keys seen on today’s devices with solid-state volume and power buttons on the iPhone 15 Pro models.

With the use of haptic feedback, the solid-state buttons, which according to Kuo will resemble the home button seen on the iPhone SE and iPhone 7, simulate the sensation of pushing a button. This style of button’s obvious benefit is that it also prevents water from entering.

Periscope-style telephoto lens for the iPhone 15 camera

Another Kuo forecast has begun circulating, but this one concerns the iPhone 15’s camera. The analyst believes that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will come with a periscope-style telephoto lens. Higher optical zoom levels are possible with this type of telephoto lens, with Kuo predicting that the iPhone 15 Pro Max may include 6x optical zoom. The iPhone 14 Pro Max’s 3x optical zoom falls short of competitors’ 10x optical zoom models like the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.

The iPhone 14 Pro’s Camera Upgrade is More Significant Than You Might Think

Price of the iPhone 15: Up, up, and away?

Since the 2007 release of the first iPhone, prices have skyrocketed. And it might occur once more in 2023 with the iPhone 15, but not in the manner you might anticipate. According to analysts who previously spoke with CNET, it is presently anticipated that the cost of the standard iPhone 15 will not change.

However, if speculations of a luxurious iPhone 15 Ultra come to pass, the price range’s maximum limit might be raised. Next year, the speculated Ultra variant might replace the iPhone 15 Pro Max, according to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg. This is consistent with Kuo’s expectations that Apple would further differentiate between the iPhone Pro and iPhone Pro Max models. The entry-level iPhone 14 model with 128GB of storage costs $829 in the US, while the most expensive iPhone 14 Pro Max with 1TB of storage costs $1,599.

What Apple Could Do With the Prices of the iPhone 15 in 2023

Launch and release dates for the iPhone 15

Since Apple typically hosts its annual iPhone event in September, we anticipate that the timeframe will be the same for the iPhone 15. Shortly after, generally on Friday of the next week, new iPhones are released. Apple occasionally defers the release of certain models, particularly when introducing a new design or size. Thus, more than one release date for the iPhone 15 lineup is conceivable.

What we do know is this:

  • The days of Apple’s events are typically Tuesdays or Wednesdays. While Apple’s iPhone 13 event took place on Tuesday, September 14, the iPhone 14 event took place on Wednesday, September 7.
  • Apple routinely announces iPhone release dates a week and a half later.
  • New iPhones typically go on sale on a Friday during the third week of September. Preorders for the iPhone 13 opened on September 17 and the devices went on sale on September 24.
