You might be surprised to learn that, with iOS 15, the only option to locate and retrieve a deleted text message was to first hope that you had a backup of your iPhone that had that particular text and then restore it. For what ought to be a simple activity, the procedure was too convoluted and time-consuming.
Fortunately, iOS 16 has made that easier now.
You may now locate the deleted texts on your smartphone and quickly retrieve them into the Messages app without having to worry about restoring a backup. Before you can retrieve any lost text messages, however, you must know where to look. How? Read on.
Find your deleted texts first.
The Messages app contains all of your deleted text messages. Open Messages and use the Filters option in the upper left corner of your text threads to discover your discarded messages. By recognizing senders, unread messages, and other criteria, you may filter your text messages here. But the choice we need is Recently Deleted.
You’ll see a list of your most recent texts, along with contact information, the number of texts sent, and the number of days until they are permanently deleted. This will apply to both deleted individual messages and whole messaging threads. You must move quite quickly since you can only view (and retrieve) deleted communications that were removed during the previous 30 days.
Additionally, you can’t view the messages themselves; you must identify the contact’s name or phone number in order to retrieve them. You’ll be able to read the messages once you’ve recovered.

To recover a text message, pick the thread or message by tapping on it. Then, click Recover in the bottom right corner of the screen. Finally, select Recover Message from the pop-up menu that displays. You may also retrieve all of your deleted text messages at once by selecting Recover All without selecting any individual texts.
You may need to scroll through your current texts a little to discover your recovered text messages, especially if they’re old and your inbox is clogged with a lot of fresh messages. Your recovered text messages will show in chronological order from when they were either written or received.
