Valentine’s Day in the Light of Islam
Haste and a liking of novelty are two traits that are naturally present in humans. These two habits keep people entangled in evils on every step of their lives and prevent them from realizing the error of their ways. They keep them stuck in this dark whirlpool of sins without finding a way out of it. If they don’t use their minds to understand the commands of Shariah and live their lives accordingly within the bounds of Shariah.
A person’s natural tendency is to live with other people, so it is necessary for him to do so. However, since Muslims and non-Muslims both coexist in the world alongside one another and because Muslims themselves contain both the righteous and the impudent, there are more opportunities for malformation than for reformation.
In this digital age where major media corporations continually display people inciting and provocative scenes in order to disseminate evils, characterlessness, and vulgarities while robbing them of their inner peace and tranquillity,… evil is spreading in a planned way at such a rapid rate that every wicked innovation and trend started by non-Muslims spreads like wildfire in a split second.
Because of this, society is seeing its harmful repercussions more than ever, and everyone is aware of this. Then, there are two categories of persons who are susceptible to evil and impolite trends: 1) People from the wealthy class who lead prominent lives and enjoy great social status; and 2) People with poor intellects and inadequate understanding.
They easily swayed them because they lack the capacity to distinguish between what is good for them and what is bad, and because of this, when people who appear to be smarter than they are spread their message among them, I easily persuaded them. As a result, evils spread wider and faster among the masses because there are more people calling for them, even though those who attempt to shield them from these evils are extremely wise and religious but are few.
most of those who are wealthy, whether they belong to the ruling class, engage in these immodest behaviors because they are pursuing the world and its pleasures, which makes them captives of their whims and cravings and leads them far from the road of righteousness. In the Holy Quran of Pakistan, Almighty Allah says:
وَ مَا كُنَّا مُعَذِّبِیْنَ حَتّٰى نَبْعَثَ رَسُوْلًا(۱۵)وَ اِذَاۤ اَرَدْنَاۤ اَنْ نُّهْلِكَ قَرْیَةً اَمَرْنَا مُتْرَفِیْهَا فَفَسَقُوْا فِیْهَا فَحَقَّ عَلَیْهَا الْقَوْلُ فَدَمَّرْنٰهَا تَدْمِیْرًا(۱۶)
And We do not punish until We send a messenger. And when We want to destroy a settlement, We send orders to its prosperous. people, but they do not obey them, and they proved the word on it, so We destroy it.
(Isra 17:15-16)
This great verse informs us that excessive wealth, power, and influence in society are some causes of deviation and sin. These people are more likely to disobey the All-Powerful Allah, and it is also frequently seen in these individuals.
This is the state of our innate tendencies, but a Muslim is not an average person since Almighty Allah has bestowed upon him the treasure of faith via His mercy and grace.As a result, as a Muslim, his religion and faith teach him to live modestly within the parameters of Shariah despite being naturally impatient, to refrain from and not be influenced by evil desires while ordinarily interacting with other people in a society, and to remain conservative when necessary while being modernistic.
But sadly, Muslims today heedlessly violate Shariah and commit crimes while participating in festivals and fashion fads. The main cause of this is that Muslims have distanced themselves from Islamic morals, manners, and deeds and cannot see the inherent weaknesses from an Islamic perspective.
Because of this, they are unable to shield themselves from the negative impacts of creativity, rashness, folly, needless socializing, and terrible company, or they desire to remain in this happy mood and do not want to leave it.
As a result, whenever a non-Muslim introduces a new trend, they are so motivated by their banal worldly advancement that they fall head over heels for it right away. Regardless of how immoral or forbidden the invention is, they cannot disassociate themselves from it.
The point of describing all of this is to show that the same factors that have been discussed above—natural weaknesses, a desire for novelty, haste, being a captive of Nafs and Satan’s desires, distance from religion, and neither adhering to religion nor encouraging the children to follow it—are also responsible for celebrating Valentine’s Day, which is vulgar and sinful and is increasingly popular among young boys and girls. Let’s examine the origins of Valentine’s Day and the traditions surrounding it:
History of Valentine’s Day and Its Shameless Celebration
Valentine’s Day is believed to have originated in the third century CE. In Claudius II’s Roman Empire, there was a priest by the name of Valentine. The king imprisoned the priest because of some form of transgression. When the priest and the jailor’s daughter fell in love, the girl gave up her previous beliefs and converted to Christianity, the priest’s religion, out of love for him.
The girl brought the priest a red rose every day after that. Young boys and girls go on dates, exchange gifts, and engage in as many rude and immodest behaviors as they can as part of the celebration of this day. A survey claims that most people who purchase birth control pills and other medications on Valentine’s Day are young boys and girls. There is a tonne of people at gift and flower shops, and most of them are young boys and girls. In nations with traditional Eastern values, where people aren’t completely free to do as they like, because young people seek secret locations, hotel reservations jump compared to other days, and most of the visitors are young people seeking a good time.
Alcohol sales and consumption are at an all-time high, and beachgoers are profane and immodest in droves. It is very regrettable and saddening that even Muslims violate the prohibitions of Almighty Allah and His Noble Messenger on this day by publicly committing sins. By doing so, they not only deepen the darkness of the record of their deeds but also taint the sanctity of Muslim society with their depravities.
Bad eye contact, exposed females, No Muslim would dispute that vulgarity, nudity, mixing of boys and girls, trading presents to bolster this unlawful relationship, adultery, and actions that lead to adultery are all forbidden and improper. The passages of the Holy Quran and the teachings of the Holy Prophet Hazrat. Muhammad صَلَّی اللّٰہُ تَعَالٰی عَلَیْہِ وَاٰلِہٖ وَسَلَّم.provide as evidence for their ban. The Holy Quran contains the following verses:
قُلْ لِّلْمُؤْمِنِیْنَ یَغُضُّوْا مِنْ اَبْصَارِهِمْ وَ یَحْفَظُوْا فُرُوْجَهُمْؕ-ذٰلِكَ اَزْكٰى لَهُمْؕ-اِنَّ اللّٰهَ خَبِیْرٌۢ بِمَا
یَصْنَعُوْنَ(۳۰)وَ قُلْ لِّلْمُؤْمِنٰتِ یَغْضُضْنَ مِنْ اَبْصَارِهِنَّ وَ یَحْفَظْنَ فُرُوْجَهُنَّ
“Command Muslim men to lower their gaze and protect their private parts. It is more pure for them. Indeed, Allah is aware of their deeds. And command Muslim women to lower their gaze and guard their chastity.
(Noor 24:30-31)
I command the following in Sura Noor’s verse 31 of the same chapter:
وَ لَا یَضْرِبْنَ بِاَرْجُلِهِنَّ لِیُعْلَمَ مَا یُخْفِیْنَ مِنْ زِیْنَتِهِنَّؕ
“And let them not strike their feet on the ground so that their hidden adornment becomes known.”
Look at this further command from the All-Powerful Allah:
یٰۤاَیُّهَا النَّبِیُّ قُلْ لِّاَزْوَاجِكَ وَ بَنٰتِكَ وَ نِسَآءِ الْمُؤْمِنِیْنَ یُدْنِیْنَ عَلَیْهِنَّ مِنْ جَلَابِیْبِهِنَّؕ-ذٰلِكَ اَدْنٰۤى اَنْ یُّعْرَفْنَ فَلَا یُؤْذَیْنَؕ-
“O Prophet! Command your wives and daughters and the women of the Muslims to cover their faces with their veils. This is closer to their recognition and non-harassment.”
(Ahzab 33:59)
Read this order from the All-Powerful Allah attentively as well:
وَ مَا كَانَ لِمُؤْمِنٍ وَّ لَا مُؤْمِنَةٍ اِذَا قَضَى اللّٰهُ وَ رَسُوْلُهٗۤ اَمْرًا اَنْ یَّكُوْنَ لَهُمُ الْخِیَرَةُ مِنْ اَمْرِهِمْؕ-وَ مَنْ یَّعْصِ اللّٰهَ وَ رَسُوْلَهٗ فَقَدْ ضَلَّ ضَلٰلًا مُّبِیْنًاؕ(۳۶)
“And no Muslim man or woman has any right in this matter, while Allah and His Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, have issued an order regarding it. And whoever does not obey the order of Allah and His Messenger If he did, he would surely fall into a clear error.
(Ahzab 33:59)
